At the Foscote Private Hospital Professor Nigel Arden consults in conditions such as osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, inflammatory arthritis and soft tissue rheumatism. He has provided treatments and undertaken procedures regarding the drug treatment of most rheumatology diseases, joint infections and nerve blocks.
Professor Arden trained at St. Thomas’ Hospital, London, where he also completed four years research into the genetics of osteoporosis and gained an MSc in Epidemiology and an MD.
In 1998 he spent six months as visiting assistant professor in epidemiology at the University of San Francisco. Followed by commencing his post as consultant rheumatologist at Southampton General Hospital two years later.
Professor Arden is now a professor in rheumatic diseases at the University of Southampton, leading a large research programme into osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and osteoporosis.
He is also a professor of rheumatic diseases and director of musculoskeletal epidemiology at the University of Oxford and an honorary consultant in rheumatology at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford.
For research purposes, Professor Arden sits on several national and international boards helping to improve their treatment and research agenda into osteoarthritis.
The professor has written 5 books over 200 academic papers. He has interests in osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, inflammatory arthritis, gout and soft tissue rheumatism.
