Dr Sellon specialises in all aspects of musculoskeletal and sports imaging, including, trauma, spine, rheumatology and image-guided intervention.

He qualified from the University of London in 2006 and completed Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons before undertaking radiology training. Sub-specialist musculoskeletal experience was gained in the USA at Duke University, the Walter Reed National Military Medical Centre and at The American Institute for Radiologic Pathology before returning to the UK and completing a musculoskeletal imaging fellowship in Leeds. He was subsequently awarded a Masters degree in Sports and Exercise Medicine (with Distinction) before being appointed as an Honorary Consultant at Oxford University Hospitals.

Dr Ed Sellon is the Trauma Imaging Lead for the Major Trauma Centre in Oxford and the Director of Education for Thames Valley Trauma Network. He is also the Clinical Lead for radiology at the Defence Military Rehabilitation Centre in Loughborough. He has experience with managing elite sports players, including with the medical teams at the indoor and outdoor World Athletics Championships, at the European Taekwondo Championships and for national league rugby.

Research & Teaching

Dr Ed Sellon is actively involved in medical education as an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer in musculoskeletal and trauma radiology at Oxford University. He is also a Clinical Lecturer in anatomy at Lincoln College, Oxford and in radiology at St Hugh’s College, Oxford. He has a special interest in using ultrasound to help teach living anatomy and undergraduate clinical skills. His recent book, Radiology for Medical Finals was shortlisted for the BMA book of the year.

Dr Ed Sellon conducts research through Oxford University and the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre in Loughborough, where he investigates novel injury rehabilitation techniques. He has authored any peer-reviewed papers, abstracts and book chapters (in the fields of radiology, sports medicine, injury rehabilitation and military medicine), and is the author of two medical textbooks. He has given lectures and workshops nationally and internationally on all aspects of musculoskeletal and sports imaging and has organised many courses.
