Rheumatology

Rheumatology is the branch of medicine that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of rheumatic diseases which can cause problems involving the joints, soft tissues, autoimmune diseases, vasculitis and inherited connective tissue disorders.

Rheumatology will look into the immunology of autoimmune diseases. An autoimmune disorder occurs when your body’s defence system triggers an attack on your own tissue cells and in the lining of your joints.

Our rheumatologist, Professor Nigel Arden specialises in osteoporosis, inflammatory arthritis (Rheumatoid, Psoriatic), osteoarthritis, soft tissue rheumatism, gout, and fibromyalgia. He provides treatments and has undertaken procedures regarding the drug treatment of most rheumatology diseases, joint injections and nerve blocks.
