Supporting Children
Listening to the needs of children and parents is a key part of the patient centred, compassionate care our clinic provides.
Experienced paediatricians spend time understanding your position and on diagnosis. On site testing is available to support the consultant’s knowledge, including MRI, blood tests, x-ray and ultrasound.
Along with their physical and psychological make up, children’s lives are considered. The immediate effects of certain conditions, any impact on their family and the best way to build the future.
A detailed treatment plan will be put in place and at most ages, discussed with a child’s parents, or carers, to ensure clarity.
Alongside key guidelines for paediatric care, your child’s health, growth and development will lead decisions. The days they have ahead of them should be protected through the treatment they receive.

Autism Diagnosis & Treatment
Deciding whether a child has a condition on the autistic spectrum is a significant step, yet can have a positive impact on a child’s life.
Children with autism can present with obvious issues from a young age, or may mask their condition. Issues they are facing such as relationship, sleep, or eating difficulties gradually becoming evident.
Diagnosis is provided by a consultant paediatrician and a speech & language therapist, both with extensive experience of autistic spectrum disorders. Input is sought from parents and a child’s school.
The main session with a child, normally aged 4 to 16, is based on the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule-2. This can use play based activity for younger children, or tasks suited to teenagers.
Diagnosis can be supplemented with a cognitive assessment, or genetic testing. The overall input and observations are used to provide feedback for parents, or carers and to create a written report.
An appointment can be made to discuss medical needs. The best path for a child is the key, although support is often available at our hospital.
Paediatric Allergies
All our paediatric consultants have experience in diagnosing and treating allergies, we also have a consultant who focuses on those conditions.
Core diagnostic tests are available, such as biochemical screening, vitamin deficiency testing, or skin prick testing. Your consultant’s knowledge is the prime asset but using modern science makes sense.
Diagnosis can identify childhood food allergies, hay fever, eczema, asthma, or less common conditions. Mast cell activation syndrome is an example, which causes cells to release unwanted chemicals.
Ongoing symptoms a child has, such as itching, may benefit from professional diagnosis, to understand the cause and the best way to deal with this.
Immunotherapy, or desensitization are available, along with medication suited to a child. The approach will combine the need to alleviate symptoms and a plan to improve your child’s long term health.
Consultation & Other Fees
In most cases, if you are meeting your own costs, you can self refer directly to one of our paediatric consultants.
Patients using medical insurance covering younger family members should be fine, as our consultants work within acceptable fee levels. Consultations typically cost between £150 and £250.
Where specific requirements are being met, such as autism assessment, we are always clear on cost at an early stage. The same applies to all forms of paediatric treatment.
Our consultants are renowned, senior physicians or surgeons. They will be on the General Medical Council’s specialist register, along with belonging to specialist bodies.
As importantly, they are here because they share our patient first ethos. To request an appointment with a consultant, or an autism assessment, please use use the form, email link, or phone number below.
