Mr Owen qualified in medicine at Cambridge University in 1992. He then trained at leading hospitals across the UK, including Cambridge, Norwich, Nottingham, Reading, Oxford and Derby, along with gaining international knowledge.
Working in the trauma unit at Washington Hospital Centre in the US brought valuable experience, as did a one year Fellowship in Brisbane, Australia. Both were an opportunity to see different practices and techniques.
In 2004, Mr Owen entered the GMC’s specialist register in trauma and orthopaedic surgery. He has supported patients as a consultant since that time, including a number of years as a specialist knee consultant.
His knowledge and skills are exceptional, although the relationship he fosters with patients can be as helpful in seeing them return to good health.
A Distinct Perspective
Mr. Owen is convinced that, as well as surgical expertise, good communication is vital in providing patients with the first class service they deserve. A belief expressed in his own words:
“Patients should have confidence in the whole team and this requires a down to earth approach, with sensible and thorough explanation. Of course, communication is a two way process and an excellent team is one that listens to and acts on patients concerns.”
