DC Cardioversion in Banbury

DC Cardioversion (Direct Current Cardioversion) is a safe and effective procedure used to restore a normal heart rhythm in patients with certain types of abnormal heartbeats, such as atrial fibrillation (AF) or atrial flutter. At The New Foscote Hospital, we offer prompt access to this treatment under the care of experienced cardiac specialists.

What is DC Cardioversion?

DC Cardioversion involves delivering a carefully controlled electric shock to the heart through the chest wall. This shock helps “reset” the heart’s electrical system, allowing it to return to a regular rhythm.

The procedure is typically performed under light sedation and is painless, with most patients going home the same day.

Your cardiologist may recommend DC Cardioversion if you have:

  • Atrial fibrillation (AF) – irregular and often rapid heartbeat
  • Atrial flutter – similar to AF, but with a more regular rhythm
  • A heart rhythm that does not improve with medications alone

It is commonly used when symptoms such as palpitations, fatigue, breathlessness, or dizziness interfere with daily life.
